which subject should we choose to learn though, Computer games design which someone told me isn’t held to reagrd compared to computer science students. I was thinking of portable games design eith any of those tand then learn computer games development afterwards.
@Nicoli319197 what degrees are preferred to become a game designer?
Does anybody have any suggestions on the best way to persue a career in game designing. I have no experiance @ all. I did html in high school but hated it. But i was high half the time. But if you been threw it or are persuing it.Your 2sence will be helpful
I wana design nothing but war games. massive war games, type of shit that they need to create new computers for.
I wanna bea desinger or artist (dunno if they’re the same or not:-) but it says does he have the dream job well that depends, someones dream job could be anything it depends what they are interested in.
the best thing to do is to start as early as possible maybe doing some type of art and digital animation, plenty of math and of course computer classes, art colleges are good for getting into game design
@brighteye15
That’s a bright way of putting it
@MotherFuckerMike thank you sir =)
what do game designers need to learn 3d design scripting etc?
well said
@djfjsd45 thank you
whats the background song in the beginning?
Im in my last year of high school. and I hope to learn to make games, preferabley console, and start my own company with a sandbox style game called Crime and Glory. But I guess I have a dream like every other gamer in the world…
@brighteye15 Well no, I work for 2K games right now and I can tell you that playing the game is only 10% of the job. Game testers are the ones who test the game during development. Not the people who actually code it. I remember that during college I saw many people who came into the same major as me and realize that actually playing the game is only 10% of their job. Let me tell you, many of the people in my classes changed their major.
@brighteye15 I just think that it is stupid when people mention that they want to get paid to play games. Many people go into the industry for the same reason as you and end up disapointed. The main reason you should want to go into the industry is that you want to create something that others will appreciate and admire. Kind of like creating a painting. And also seeing how people respond to your work and enjoying their responses.
@brighteye15 I’m sorry that I seem mad, but I just see too many people nowadays saying that they want to go into the industry cause they like playing video games. Most often that reason and main drive to go into the industry fizzles out within a couple of months, and they end up changing careers. To me working on a video game is like painting a work of art. The way you said your comment was just like saying ” I like watching movies, I wanna make them”
@brighteye15 Making a game is a totally different expierience than actually playing it. So if you think that since you have a strong desire to play games, then you will have an amazing time making them, you are sadly mistaken. I’m really sorry, nothing personal, but it really pisses me off when someone says they want to program games cause they enjoy playing them. It’s just that I have heard so many people say that over the past 5 years.
@brighteye15 and when they say that, about 90% of them end up switching their major, or choosing a new career path that has nothing to do with computers. It’s just that when most people realize the amount of technical knowledge you need for this industry, it turns them off because in reality they just enjoy playing games not making them. Not to mention the long work hours, the amount of overtime, deadlines, and constant rush to get things done on time bug free.
@brighteye15 In the end though, I love my job. The greatest feeling I get out of it is when we release the game to stores and I get to hear the feedback on the game I helped create. Whether the feedback is good or bad, you really appreciate the fact that you created something that others can enjoy and have fun with. I tell you it makes me so happy to go into a store and actually see someone buy or talk about a game that I helped create, that feeling is so satisfying.
@brighteye15 It truly makes the months of blood, sweat, and tears I spent on making the game all worth while. To just see the reactions on other people’s faces.
@theITALIANreporter thats why im in college for that right now lol, i wanna make other people as happy as i am when i play a game, well off to class, feel free to respond.
@theITALIANreporter you see im 15 currently and ive been wanting to do this starting about 2 years ago when i started sittinga around at home doing nothing during the summer months, so i would play games a while and maybe for a few days ill get on like photoshop and 3d design programs and mess around and thats when i figured out that i like the whole creative aspect of a video game and being creative and designing things myself that im highly considering this as my objective.
@0O0O0O0O0O1000 good, you would have a nak for this type of job, you have to be able to want to make them kind of like why an artist wants to paint a picture, not just because he likes looking at them. Good, this may be for you, but it also requires mathematics skills, so prepare yourself. Go to a store and by a book about c++ programming and watch a couple of vids on youtube to get started. Buy a book called “c++ for dummies”, its a funny title but it teaches you a lot.
@0O0O0O0O0O1000 c++ is a lot like learning a very time consuming language, because in general it is like you are talking to the computer, through the program you are making. Once you get about 5 years of programming under your belt you should be good at it. programming takes a shit load of time to do and to learn, but once it is learned it isn’t hard. remember it can take an average of 5 to 10 years to actually become a great programmer if you put your heart into it.
Mathematics and programming are the basis for all games. Your knowledge and capability in these subjects will determine the limits of what you can design.
